The University of Tampa advances in the NCAA tournament to the Final Four.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The No. 1 seed, University of Tampa, sweeps the No. 8 seed, American International College, in the NCAA Quarterfinal. The Spartans handily defeated the Yellow Jackets by set scores of 25-12, 25-18, and 25-9. Tampa will advance to the final four for the 11th time in program history, playing the No. 4 seed, Washburn. The NCAA Semifinal will take place at 6:30 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
To start the match, the Spartans took a convincing first set 25-12 over the Yellow Jackets. Sorrel Houghton had an outstanding six kills on 11 attempts hitting a whopping .545 in the opening set. Mueller ended the first game with 11 assists. The Spartans faltered a bit in the second, however still downed the Yellow Jackets by a set score of 25-18. Taking the clean sweep, UT demanded the win in the third, closing out the match by a final set score of 25-9. Tampa's offense in the match was UNSTOPPABLE! Four different Spartans hit above .500, including Alexandra Misca (.667), Houghton (.520), Katie McKiel (.500), and Nylah Demps (.500). These women had six, 14, 15, and five kills respectively. Additionally, Taylor Fosler earned an average kill percentage of .333 with four kills of her own. Sammy Mueller ended the match with 37 total assists, while libero Nicole Dominguez stated 11 digs. Leading the defense for the Spartans was McKiel. The sophomore out of Colorado Springs, Colorado logged a team high of 12 kills, earning her 21stdouble-double of the season. This was a huge team win for Tampa, with 13 Spartans on the roster seeing action on the court.
Tampa advances to the final four for the 11th time in program history. The NCAA Semifinal being held tomorrow, November 30, at 6:30 p.m. The team will play the No. 4 seed, Washburn.
INSIDE THE STATS:
• Four Spartans hit above .500 including Alexandra Misca (.667), Sorrel Houghton (.520), Katie McKiel (.500), and Nylah Demps (.500.).
• McKiel earned her 21stdouble-double of the season with team-highs of 15 kills and 12 digs in the match.
• Nicole Dominguez recorded a team-high of two service aces, followed by Gen Beaumier and Claudia Rivera each with one. Rivera also recorded seven digs for UT, third highest for the match.
• Misca had a team-high of four block assists, followed by Demps with three, Fossler, Mckiel and Mueller all with two, and Danielle Christian with 1.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
This was the first time in program history that the Spartans and Yellow Jackets have faced each other. UT, now leads the all-time series 1-0.

The Spartans will compete in the NCAA Semifinals tomorrow, November 30, against No. 4 Washburn.
