No. 14 Spartans Are Back In The Win Column After Beating Tritons

Tampa, Fla. – UTampa completes their regular season sweep of Eckerd.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

First Set: Eckerd snagged the first 3 points of the match and even found themselves with a 7-4 lead over Tampa to begin the first set. However, the Spartans went on a spectacular 9-0 run that included 4 kills from Kalli Cors and caused the Tritons to call their first timeout of the day. Tampa's dominance continued as they scored 9 of 10 points towards the end of the set, seeing more kills from Cors, Jenna Davis, and Zoey Seput that added to the Spartans' 19 total in the set. Even though Eckerd scored 3 of the last 4 points, a service error from the visitors gave the hosting Spartans the first set.  | Score: 25-15 Eckerd

Second Set: The Spartans quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead that snowballed into 10-2 and a Triton timeout after a Nathaly Perez and Mak Carter block. UTampa continued their dominance through the middle of the set and a towering kill from Rachel Gregg extended their lead to 19-9. However, Tampa's superiority was not only from the offensive side of the ball, as their defense held Eckered to a .028 hitting percentage, compared to the Spartans who racked up a .500 hitting percentage of their own.   | Score: 25-13 Tampa

Third Set: Although Eckerd was able to score 3 of the first 4 points, the Tampa offense was able to correct as kills from Davis, Seput, and Connor Rahn helped to an 11-5 lead as the set headed into another Eckerd timeout. With the match seeming over as the Spartans went up 21-13, the Tritons scored 6 of the next 8 points and the visitors were all of a sudden within 4 of the hosts. Additionally, the quick Eckerd run caused Head Coach Chris Catanach to take his first timeout of the day. Fortunately for Tampa, back-to-back Eckerd errors closed out the set and match.   | Score: 25-19 Tampa
