The Tampa Rundown
ICYMI- In case you missed it, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and women's golf were all in action last week.
The women's golf team was in Daytona Beach as they participated in the Daytona State Invitational. The Spartans took first place in the invitational, with Kiira Riihijarvi leading the way with a first-place finish.
Both cross country teams were in Gainesville as they raced in the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational. The women's team won the non-Division 1 title, and finished second overall, behind the University of Florida. Zoe Jarvis and Aspen Gordon both posted top 10 finishes, as they placed fifth and seventh overall respectively. Jarvis earned Sunshine State Conference runner of the week following her performance. The men's team finished fifth among non-Division 1 schools. Trevor Kattenberg led the way for the Spartans as he finished 19th overall.
Volleyball headed west to participate in the Colorado Premier Challenge. UT dropped all four matches in the challenge, including loses to two nationally-ranked teams.
Men's soccer split two games during the week. The Spartans fell to Clayton State 1-0 and defeated Flagler 4-2. Against Flagler, Omar Thali scored two goals. Rojay Smith and Luca Abreu also added goals for the Spartans. Smith added two assists and Julius Becker also recorded an assist in the match.
Women's soccer had a pair of games on the road. Tampa fell to No. 2 Columbus State 3-1 and fell to Montevallo 3-0.
This Week
Volleyball – The Spartans will begin their 2019 Sunshine State Conference schedule as they will play a pair of games at home this weekend. Friday at 7:00 p.m. Tampa welcomes in the Eckerd College Tritons. Eckerd enters the week with a record of 7-1. On Saturday, the Spartans will face the Saint Leo Lions, at 4:00 p.m. The Lions enter the week with a record of 6-2.
Men's Soccer – UT will have a pair of games this week. On Tuesday, the Spartans will play a non-conference game, as they welcome in the Thomas University Night Hawks. The Night Hawks enter the week with a record of 1-4, kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, Tampa beings SSC play as they will hit the road and face off against the Barry University Buccaneers. The game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Women's Soccer – Tampa will have one match this week as they will host Barry in the SSC opener for both teams. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
