Bio

Derek Koetter is in his first year as the assistant athletic communications director. As the top assistant, Koetter's main responsibilities include overseeing UT athletics social media accounts, and serving as the primary contact for volleyball, men's and women's lacrosse and beach volleyball. He is also a secondary contact for men's and women's basketball. 

Koetter is a graduate of the University of Missouri, where he earned a degree in sport management with a minor in business. During his time at Missouri he he was a student intern for the Mizzou Athletics Strategic Communications Department, where he worked closely with ESPN and the SEC Network doing media relations. He also served as the student manager and practice player for the volleyball team.

After graduating from University of Missouri, he moved to Tampa and accepted a position as a Digital and Social Media Intern for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In January, he accepted a position as an Interim Athletic Communications Assistant for the University of Tampa where he worked to implement the social media strategy and create written and multimedia content. He also served as the primary contact for the UT men's and women's lacrosse teams.
 
Koetter is the son of Dirk and Kim Koetter, and has three siblings, Kaylee, Kendra, and Davis. Kaylee was a four-year letterwinner for the UT volleyball team and assistant coach for the Spartans prior to accepting a coaching position at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
