Bio

Earle Bruce was the head football coach at Tampa in 1972. While at UT for just one year, he guided his squad to a 10-2 record, including a 21-18 Tangerine Bowl victory over Kent State. A 7-0 victory over Miami was among the victories in 1972, as he also defeated Bowling Green, Vanderbilt, Eastern Michigan and Toledo. Two of his players, John Matuszak and Fred Solomon, went on to win a pair of Super Bowls while Matuszak was the eventual number-one overall selection in the NFL Draft. In 2002, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame after accumulating a collegiate coaching record of 144-88-2. He took the reigns at Iowa State in 1973, where he stayed until taking over at his alma mater, Ohio State, in 1979. He coached the Buckeyes for nine seasons, winning five bowl games.
