Spartans Earn Top Seed at Beach Championships
TAVARES, Fla. – The University of Tampa beach volleyball team has earned the top seed in the 2021 DII Small College Beach Championship. The 12 team tournament starts on Friday, as the Spartans open up with the no. 7 seed Carson Newman University.
The other two teams to join Tampa in Pool A, will be no. 6 Colorado Mesa and no. 12 Catawba. Pool play will take place on Friday, where each team will play two matches, and on Saturday, with one match for each team.
The Spartans will enter the tournament at 13-11 and are riding a two-match win streak.
Teams will be assigned to challenge round play on Saturday based on the results from the Friday and Saturday pool play matches. The challenge round will consist of the top two teams from each of the three pools competing against each other. These six teams will compete in the Gold bracket on Sunday. The bottom two teams from each of the three pools will compete in the Silver bracket on Sunday. All teams will have one pool play match and one challenge round match on Saturday. Gold and Silver bracket play begins on Sunday morning. The Division II Champion will be the winner of the Gold bracket.
