Spartans Sweep Falcons to Start Season
The Spartans opened up their season for the 7th consecutive season with the Falcons and came out with a sweep.

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team battled the Falcons from Bentley University and were victorious as they won 5-4 to sweep the Falcons.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Andrew DiLaqua was the first Spartan to score as he homered to left center in the bottom of the second inning. Chris Gaffney followed suit when he homered to left field in his first at bat, making the Spartans lead 2-0 heading into the third inning.
- In the bottom of the third, Laz Rivera reached on a fielders choice, Adrian Chacon walked, and DiLaqua singled to left center scoring L. Rivera, making the score 3-0.
- Nick Nolan relieved Christian Calleja in the top of the sixth inning.
- After a five hit half inning, the Falcons scored two runs to make the score 3-2, Spartan advantage.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Richie Rivera singled on a bunt then advanced to second on a steal. Danny Lee singled through the right side, scoring R. Rivera.
- The Falcons tied the game in the top of the 7th after a two run, two hit half inning.
- R. Rivera hit a triple down the right field line. Lee singled on a bunt that would bring R. Rivera home and give the Spartans a 5-4 lead.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Calleja pitched five innings, recorded five strikeouts, and allowed only one hit.
- DiLaqua hit his first homer of his career as a Spartan.
- DiLaqua was 2-3 with a single, a homer, and two RBIs.
- Lee was 3-5 with three singles and two RBIs.
- R. Rivera went 3-4 with a single, double, and a triple.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans have now swept the last four series with the Bentley Falcons.
