Tampa's Lyons Bests Saint Leo's Lions For SSC Sweep
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa baseball team swept Saint Leo University in dramatic fashion as a 3-run walkoff home run off the bat of Jamarcus Lyons sealed the three-game sweep for the Spartans.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Game One Final: No. 2 Tampa Spartans 6, Saint Leo Lions 4
Game Two Final: No. 2 Tampa Spartans 7, Saint Leo Lions 4

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions opened up the scoring in the top of the second as they were able to get one run across the plate. || Top 2 || 1-0 SLU
- After reaching base on an error, 2B Nicholas Winkelmeyer would score on a single to left field by E.J. Cumbo. || Top 5 || Tied 1-1
- The Spartans offense finally came to life as Winkelmeyer led off the bottom of the fifth with a single. He would go on to advance on a fielder's choice by Cumbo. After a Saint Leo error, Winkelmeyer would advance third and later score on a sacrifice fly by Jamarcus Lyons, giving Lyons his sixth RBI of the year. John Malcolm extended his on base streak to nine games after drawing a walk on a seven pitch at-bat. DH Nick Derr gave the Spartans a 3-2 lead with an infield single, Cumbo scoring on the play. || Bottom 5 || 3-2 UT
- RHP Nik Constantakos came in to make his fifth appearance of the season. With two runners on base, he was able to record a strikeout and force a flyout to keep the Tampa lead intact. || Top 6 || 3-2 UT
- Constantakos continued his sharp outing as he struck out two batters in the top of the seventh for a quick 1-2-3 inning for the Spartans. || Top 7 || 3-2 UT
- After a single by Winkelmeyer and a fielding error by Saint Leo, Jamarcus Lyons gave the Spartans a commanding four-run lead with a moonshot home run to left field. || Bottom 7 || 6-2 UT
- Despite a late-game rally by the Lions, Jordan Leasure was able to secure the save and the Spartans were able to secure the win. || Final 6-4 UT
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Nicholas Winkelmeyer (2-for-3, 2R, 1BB) led the team in hits with two.
- Jamarcus Lyons (1-for-2, 1HR, 4RBI, 1R) hit his first home run of the season.
- E.J. Cumbo went 1-for-3 at the plate with 1RBI and drove in two runs.
- RHP Braydon Nelson (5.1IP, 7K, 6H , 2ER, 3BB) improves to 3-0 on the season.
- RHP Nik Constantakos (3.0IP, 5K, 2H, 2R, 1BB) now has 14 strikeouts on the year.
- RHP Jordan Leasure picked up his fourth save of the season.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Saint Leo put a run across the plate in the top half of the inning, the Spartans were able to score three runs after a trio of walks, a rundown and a J.D. Urso single. || Bottom 1 || 3-1 UT
- Jamarcus Lyons was able to drive in a run with a sacrifice fly following a Nicholas Winkelmeyer single. || Bottom 5 || 4-2 UT
- The Lions were able to hit back-to-back solo home runs to tie the game up in the top of the ninth. || Top 7 || Tied 4-4
- Christian Flint and E.J. Cumbo both singled to set the stage for Jamarcus Lyons who hit a three-run walk-off home run to leftfield.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Jamarcus Lyons (2-for-3, 1HR, 1R, 4RBI) hit his second home run of the day to give the Spartans the walk-off win.
- RHP Eric Linder (6.1IP, 5K, 5H, 4R, 2R, 2BB) made his sixth appearance of the season.
