Spartans Return to Winning Ways with Easy Victory over Barry
TAMPA, Fla. - After losing two straight, The University of Tampa men's basketball team picked up a 57-41 victory over Barry University in a Sunshine State Conference meeting. UT improves to 10-4 on the year and 4-2 in SSC play while Barry drops to 6-11 and 0-5 in league action.
The Spartans dominated from the beginning, and never trailed again after Barry scored the opening basket. It took Tampa 10 minutes to stretch the lead to double figures, where they never allowed the game to reach single digits again.
A solid shooting effort of 40 percent helped Tampa's cause, while the UT defense held the Buccaneers to a 23.5 percent clip. UT also connected on 11 three-pointers for the game.
Chris King and Jeremy Black led the Spartans with 17 points apiece. King enjoyed a dominant first half, scoring 14 of his 17 in the first.
Chris Evans added a team-high 14 rebounds to go with eight points and two blocked shots. Rashad Callaway led the Spartans with seven assists while Johnathan Ball had team honors with four steals and matched Evans with a pair of blocks.
Tampa returns to action on Wednesday as it welcomes SSC rival Florida Southern for a 7:30 p.m., meeting. The Moccasins will enter the game with a 13-4 record, including a 4-1 SSC record.
