Spartans Close Out Fall Season With Fantastic Round 3 at Citrus Invite
DAVENPORT, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's golf team turned in its strongest round of the week on the final day to climb into seventh place at the Citrus Intercollegiate, closing the three-round event with a team total of 881 (+17) at the ChampionsGate International Course. After opening with a 311, the Spartans improved dramatically over the next 36 holes, including a tournament-best 278 in the final round—one of the lowest closing rounds posted by any team in the field.
The Spartans shook off a slow start with consistency throughout the lineup in rounds two and three, finishing just one stroke behind eighth-place Nova Southeastern and five strokes back of sixth-place Palm Beach Atlantic. The final round included three players at even par or better. Tampa would register rounds of 311, 292, and 278 to close out the event.
Florida Southern captured the team championship at 14-under (850), while Barry's Eduardo Matarazzo won medalist honors at 13-under (203), highlighted by back-to-back rounds of 65.
Tampa Performers
- Mohit Balaji – t-7th (77–69–68 = 214, -2). Balaji led the Spartans with a top-10 finish and two under-par rounds. After opening with a 77, he surged into red figures on day two and closed with a 68—matching his lowest round as a Spartan. Balaji was steady across the final day, picking up birdies on the par-5s and controlling approach play to climb into the top seven of the 75-player field.
- Kyle Honer – t-25th (76–77–67 = 220, +4). Honer delivered Tampa's lowest score of the event with a closing-round 67, charging up the leaderboard 26 spots on the final day. His third round featured five birdies and a bogey-free back nine, helping secure a top-25 individual finish.
- Carl Gustin – t-33rd (76–75–73 = 224, +8). Gustin provided steady production in all three rounds, posting a 73 on Tuesday to help fuel the team's closing surge. He played the par-3s at one of the strongest clips among Tampa's lineup.
- Linus Landahl – t-51st (85–73–70 = 228, +12). Landahl showed one of the largest improvements in the field. After an 85 in round one, he rebounded impressively with a 73 and finished with a 68 on the final day, contributing to Tampa's best team round of the tournament.
- Louis Galvin – t-68th (82–75–77 = 234, +18). Galvin posted back-to-back improvements after his first round, carding a second-day 75 and closing with a 77 to help round out the Spartans' scoring unit.
