Bio

Bill Shatz is in his second season as an assistant coach after being named to the Spartans staff in the fall of 2019. Shatz has been involved in lacrosse as a player, coach, leader and business executive for more than 40 years.

He is no stranger to the Sunshine State Conference, spending two years on staff at Florida Southern College. Shatz served as the Director of Lacrosse at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he began the IMG lacrosse program and served as the team's head coach.

At IMG Academy, Shatz led his squad to a national ranking in just its second year of existence and earned a top-10 ranking in each season during the rest of his tenure. More than 60.0 percent of his players at IMG went on to play Division I men's lacrosse, and IMG won more than 90.0 percent of its games under his leadership to become one of the top prep school programs in the country.

In addition to his time at IMG Academy, Shatz coached at Freedom High School in nearby Tampa where he developed the nationally-renowned "DoubleCrosse" system of play. His system turned Freedom into one of the top programs in the state of Florida and produced several all-Americans. He also founded the Tampa Bay Fire lacrosse club, where he trained developed more than 40 high school all-Americans. He also co-founded the American Indoor Lacrosse Association.

Shatz has also held several positions with US Lacrosse and was part of the selector staff that evaluated and selected players to the US National U-19 team that won the 2012 world championships.

A 1980 graduate of Ithaca College, Shatz was a four-year starter for the Bombers and finished as one of the top scorers in school history. He also holds a master's degree from Yale and served in the US Navy from 1984-1996.
