Dominic Cutrofello Inks Deal With VSI Tampa Bay FC
TAMPA, Fla. - Former University of Tampa soccer standout Dominic Cutrofello has signed a professional contract with VSI Tampa Bay FC of the United Soccer Leagues (USL).
Cutrofello will begin playing with the team on Feb. 16 as the contract will run through Oct. 1. This follows a performance at the USL Combine, which led to the contract offer.
A native of Lutz, Fla., the midfielder played two seasons at UT after transferring from Florida Atlantic University. He led Tampa in minutes in both seasons as a Spartan while playing in 31 total games. He logged 2,704 minutes and scored seven goals and one assist. He currently ranks seventh in UT history in penalty kicks made.
The inaugural preseason for VSI Tampa Bay FC is set to start on February 18 as the side prepares for the 2013 USL PRO season. The players will look to settle in quickly, learn Head Coach Matt Weston's system and face off against Swedish team BK Hacken on Saturday, February 23 at noon at the world-class facilities of IMG Academy in Bradenton.
Following their contest with BK Hacken, VSI will take on four local universities throughout the month of March before beginning its inaugural USL PRO season on the road against Phoenix FC on March 30.
Among the spring matches is an exhibition versus UT on March 7 at Pepin Stadium where Cutrofello will face off against his alma mater.
