ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Despite producing a strong attacking effort and controlling stretches of possession, the University of Tampa men's soccer team fell on the road at Eckerd, 1–0, on Wednesday night. The Spartans outshot the Tritons 15–8, including an 11-shot surge in the second half, but were unable to convert in the final third as a late goal in the 89th minute decided the match.
Tampa dictated tempo for long portions of the contest, generating quality pressure in the attacking half. Rodrigo Lopes led all players with six shots, including two on frame, consistently challenging the Eckerd back line. Midfielder Felix Poschmann added two attempts and played a key role in ball progression through the midfield.
Defensively, Tampa's back line was organized and difficult to break down, holding Eckerd to limited attempts on goal. Luca Bergmann anchored the unit while playing the full 90 minutes, and Henrik Fosvold provided strong supporting play along the back, adding one of Tampa's on-target efforts.
In net, Alex Hare registered two saves and commanded the penalty area effectively, helping keep the match scoreless until the final minute. Tampa's defensive structure held firm throughout the majority of the match before Eckerd found a late chance inside the box to break the deadlock.
