UT Men First, Women Second at Halfway Mark of Spartan Invite

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's swimming team continues to lead the pack at the fifth annual Spartan Invite while its women's team is in second place following completion of day two at the four-day event.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Team Scoring: Tampa 709, Wingate 402, Indian River 259.5, Florida Southern 237, Lenoir-Rhyne 143.5, Saint Leo 48, Nova Southeastern 33, Catawba 28
Women's Team Scoring: Wingate 557, Tampa 443.5, West Florida 366.5, Indian River 263, Lenoir-Rhyne 95, Florida Southern 63, Saint Leo 32, Nova Southeastern 26, Catawba 14

MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:

UT claimed a first-place finish to open the evening in the 200 Free Relay. The top time of 1:21.27 came from Yannick Smith, Hugo Bustamante, Aaron James and Mikael Haugen. UT also took second in the race.
Luke Hene championed the 100 Fly with a time of 47.79. Teammate Andre Richardson was third.
The 200 Free went to UT's Jared Fitzgerald in 1:38.25 as Bustamante was third overall.
The Spartans won the 400 Medley Relay in 3:16.61. The top finishers included Hene, Brett Saunders, Richardson and Fitzgerald.

WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:

The Spartans took first in the 200 Free Relay, being timed at 1:33.46. The group included Maureen Moore, Molly O'Hara, Elizaveta Bazarova and Hana van Loock.
Bazarova led a one-two finish for the Spartans in the 200 Free at 1:49.65. van Loock followed in second place.
Tampa was first in the 400 Medley Relay to complete the evening. The winning time of 3:43.46 came from Courtney Sherwood, Bazarova, O'Hara and van Loock.

UP NEXT:
Day three of the Spartan Invite will begin with the prelims at 9:30 a.m. The finals are slated for 6 p.m. Fans may watch live at TampaSpartans.tv or follow live scoring through the Meet Mobile app.
