Tampa Men Win Spartan Invite as Women Finish Second

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's swimming team took the team championship at the fifth annual Spartan Invite while its women's team was second overall at the four-day event hosted by UT. This marks the second time UT's men have won the event, previously winning in 2015-16.

RECORD PERFORMANCES:

Brett Saunders set a school record in the 200 Breast at 1:58.39.
Julia Augustsson established a school record of 2:15.62 in the 200 Breast.

MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:

The 100 Free was championed by Jared Fitzgerald at 44.48. UT had the top three finishers as he was followed by Marvin Slanschek and Yannick Smith.
Brett Saunders topped his school-record time in the 200 Breast with a mark of 1:58.39.
The Spartans concluded the Invite with a first-place 400 Free Relay effort. A time of 2:57.96 came from Smith, Mikael Haugen, Slanschek and Fitzgerald.

WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:

Elizaveta Bazarova was second in the 100 Free with a time of 50.22 as Hana van Loock was third.
Tampa had a third-place finish by freshman Julia Augustsson in the 200 Breast in a school-record time of 2:15.62.

UP NEXT:
Tampa will now take a break and return to action on Saturday, January 4 at the Tampa Relay Invite. UT will host the race at 10 a.m. Fans may watch live at TampaSpartans.tv or follow live scoring through the Meet Mobile app.
