Bio

Guerby Ruuska joined the University of Tampa swimming staff prior to the 2020-21 season, where he assists with both the men's and women's squads.

He also serves as the new head coach of the GTSA Del Rio. Ruuska started coaching for his local summer league team, Rensselaer Summer Swim Team, where he started coaching 8&Unders.

In 2015, he guided the 8&U girls to a 1-2 finish in every event at the PSSL conference championship. He then moved up to coach the 11&12’s group. At the 2018 PSSL conference meet, Guerby led the 11&12 girls to a 1-2 finish in all but 2 events and 200 medley relay team record. After 3 years of great success, in the summer of 2019 Guerby moved up to the position of the head coach where he was in charge of coaching the 13-19 group as well as full operations. Guerby helped lead the Rensselaer Summer Swim Team to a 6th straight PSSL conference title while breaking 9 team records along the way. 7 of the 9 records coming from his 13-19 group.

Ruuska has also volunteered his time to assist with club swimming, swim lessons, and high school functions.

He previously took on the position of head coach of the new Tri-West Swim Club out of Lizton, Indiana, where in one year he grew the club tremendously. He helped grow the team's numbers and coached several divisional qualifiers. Under Ruuska, the new club found themselves competing and being competitive with bigger clubs from around the state. In this time Guerby also took on the head coaching position of the middle school team and assisted with the high school team.

Guerby graduated from Manchester University with a BS in English and a minor in Journalism. He competed for the Spartans all four years and was a record-setter in all five relays and the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Ruuska is also a member of the Haitian National Swimming Federation where he competed for them internationally in the FINA Worlds Swim meet in Gwangju, South Korea.
