Trevor Kattenberg Sets Three Men’s Track Records in 2021
As his time at The University of Tampa will soon be coming to an end, senior physics and economics double major, Trevor Kattenberg, will be walking away from the men's track program with three school records under his belt.
In 2019, during Kattenberg's sophomore year, he first set a new school record in the 5K race in 14:56.84 at the Georgia Tech Invite. He then moved on to break the same record by 19 seconds in 14:37.82 at the UT Track Classic during his junior year (2020).
"My mentality, when it comes to running, has changed a lot in the last four years," said Kattenberg. "I definitely have seen an increase of confidence in myself since my freshman year."
The dual-sport men's cross country and track athlete has seen much success in the last four years. During cross country seasons, Kattenberg has led the team to victories on multiple occasions, but specifically during his junior and senior seasons (2019 and 2021).
Most recently, Kattenberg set yet another school record in the 10K race in 30:32.16 at the Flames Invitational in early April, hosted by Lee University. But, just last weekend, Kattenberg was able to add another school record to his holdings. He crossed the line at the UT Quint Meet in a first-place position at 8:34.5.
"I attribute a lot of my accomplishments to focusing on a healthy diet, creating a strong mental ability, and my coach [Dror Vaknin]. He is a very knowledgeable coach who always knows when to say the right things," said Kattenberg.
Kattenberg said many amazing memories have been made at UT, although he plans to attend the University of Michigan in the Fall. He hopes to receive a graduate degree in applied economics and make the walk-on standards of the cross country and track team.
"My time at UT has been nothing short of enjoyable," said Kattenberg. "I enjoyed running with the boys every day, even though our sport can be dull at times. They have always been competitive and supportive."
