
UT Among Top Teams at Florida Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's cross country team was fourth at the University of Florida's Mountain Dew Invitational, defeating several NCAA Division I teams and placing first among Division II institutions.
The host Gators won the race while carrying the top five individual runners. North Florida and Central Florida also finished ahead of Tampa as Florida Gulf Coast rounded out the top five.
Other Sunshine State Conference schools competing were Saint Leo (14), Florida Southern (15) and Florida Tech (16). Notable schools who participated were Florida Atlantic (8), Miami (11), Florida A&M (13) and Stetson (18).
Reigning SSC Runner of the Week Laura Yarrow led all Spartans as the freshman was 15th with a 5K time of 18:14.60. The time also marked a new career-best time for the young Spartan.
Senior Kaia Hampton finished inside the top-20 as she was 19th after being clocked at 18:39.69. Kelly Hagan (24th, 18:51.77), Danielle Kissel (40th, 19:27.74), Christa McLeod (46th, 19:41.67), Iolani Scanlan (58th, 19:56.43), Kaitlyn Martin (62nd, 20:04.75) and Liz Anthony (80th, 20:25.10) also ran for UT in the 157-runner field.
Both teams will next be in action on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Saint Leo Invite.
