Dooley Shuts Out Eagles as UT Wins 2-0
The team wrapped up its opening weekend with a 2-0 victory against Chadron State to move to 3-0 on the year

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Spartans softball team completed a perfect opening weekend as they defeated the Chadron State Eagles 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to move to 3-0 on the season. Makaleigh Dooley pitched a complete game shutout as she is now 2-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
3rd Inning: Dooley helped herself out at the plate as she hit a single to the shortstop that allowed Sahrina Cortes to score from second and put UT on the board with two outs in the inning.
4th Inning: Elly Pillers drew a walk to start the inning and Lauren Pascoe came on as a pinch-runner. Pascoe moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Farrell and came in to score the final run of the afternoon as Shelby Press singled up the middle.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley tossed her second complete game of the year and recorded seven strikeouts again.
- The Eagles were only able to get three hits across the seven innings and drew one walk while UT tallied six hits and drew four walks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- For the third game in a row, UT got on the scoreboard first.
- The Spartans have outscored their opponents 13-2 in their first three games.
UP NEXT:
The team returns to action on Friday, February 10th as they travel to St. Augustine, Fla. to participate in the Flagler Tournament. The Spartans will open the tournament against host Flagler College at 3 p.m. before facing off against Georgia Southwestern at 7:30 p.m.
