Third Time Just as Sweet as Dooley Earns SSC Pitcher of the Week
The pitcher went 5-0 last week and had 33 strikeouts in 31.2 innings of work
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Makaleigh Dooley earned her third Pitcher of the Week award this season after posting an impressive 5-0 record last week as Tampa played in seven games. The sophomore pitcher tossed a total of 31.2 innings and had four complete games. She conceded only six earned runs and walked one batter while racking up 33 strikeouts. Against Southwest Minnesota State on Monday, the Tampa native recorded her first career no-hitter as she walked one batter and had one batter reach base after being hit by a pitch. Dooley now stands at 12-1 on the year while her team is now 19-4 overall and 9-3 in SSC play.
The team returns to action this Friday, March 17th as they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles in a regional matchup. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 6-12, 2017. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
