Tritons Take Close Series Opener Over Spartans
A run in the bottom of the fifth inning was the only scoring of the game
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The No. 23 ranked University of Tampa softball team was on the road to take on the Eckerd College Tritons in their final road series of the regular season. The three-game series opened with a Friday night matchup that went the way of the home side as the Tritons came out on top 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bottom 5th: The Tritons opened the bottom half of the inning with a double to right-center field and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. The next batter laid down a squeeze bunt and the Eckerd runner was able to slip in under the tag at home plate to give her team the 1-0 lead.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Maddie Farrell had the lone Spartan hit with a single to right field in the top of the 5th inning.
- Dooley recorded seven strikeouts and 58 of her 70 pitches were strikes.
UP NEXT:
The team will wrap up their series against Eckerd tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
