TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team will play their first Sunshine State Conference series at home this weekend as they host Rollins College on Friday and Saturday. The Spartans are coming off a 2-1 series win at Florida Southern while the Tars opened SSC play with a 2-1 series win over Saint Leo. Tampa defeated FSC 4-2 on Friday evening scoring four unanswered runs after the Mocs opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and took the series after winning the final game of the series 7-5 in nine innings.

About the Spartans: Tampa has opened Sunshine State Conference play at 2-1 after their opening series against Florida Southern and stand at 5-6 overall. Cristina Clauberg leads the team with a .343 AVG while Bailey Phillips is close behind with a .323 AVG. Clauberg is first in hits with 12 and second in runs with five while Shelby Press leads the team in that category with six. As a team, the Spartans have hit 16 extra base hits and have recorded 30 RBI. Makaleigh Dooley has pitched most of the season for Tampa in the circle and comes into this weekend with a 2.33 ERA. Dooley has 44 strikeouts to just seven walks in 66 innings of work.
About the Tars: Rollins comes to Tampa with an overall record of 7-7 and 2-1 in conference play on the heels of a surprising 2-1 series win over then-no.23 Saint Leo at home and a midweek doubleheader sweep of Adelphi also at home. After dropping the series opener to SLU 5-4 last Friday, the Tars have won four straight games. Chandler Middlebrook leads the offense with a .381 AVG and is also tied for the team lead in hits with 16. Abigail Sexton has recorded 16 RBI for RC and has scored 12 times for the Tars. In the circle, Grace Street leads Rollins with a 3.12 ERA in 33.2 innings tossed to go along with 28 strikeouts and 21 walks. The junior pitcher has given up 24 runs (15 earned) on 36 hits. Abby Summers has started most of the season and comes into the series at 5-5 with 58.2 innings of work. Summers has given up 37 runs (29 earned) for a 3.46 ERA.
Series History: Tampa leads the all-time series against RC 62-46. Last time the two teams met, UT came away with a 2-1 series win after winning game two 10-4 and game three 7-1.
