UT Bats Come Alive to Salvage Doubleheader Split
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team avenged a loss in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader to take the victory in the final game.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
- Mariah Galhouse came through with an RBI single to open the scoring, with Stephanie Balmer scoring the first run of the day. Bottom 1 | 1-0 Tampa
- The Sailfish plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning, one on a passed ball and the other on an RBI double. Top 4 | 2-1 Palm Beach Atlantic
- A PBA triple drove in the third run of the game for the Sailfish. Top 5 | 2-1 Palm Beach Atlantic
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:
- The Spartans scattered five hits, while the Sailfish had seven.
- Emalee Jansen had the lone extra-base hit for the Spartans, with a double.
- Corynn Miner went the distance in the circle, throwing 7.0 innings with a season-best 10 strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:
- Miner continued the first-inning magic for the Spartan offense, connecting on an RBI double to score Balmer. Bottom 1 | 1-0 Tampa
- Balmer doubled the UT lead on an RBI single that scored Lauren Fantone. Bottom 2 | 2-0 Tampa
- A sacrifice fly off the bat of Alexa Russo brought in pitcher Mariah Galhouse. Fantone would drive in the fourth run of the game for the Spartans on a single that scored Lexie Chevalier. Bottom 3 | Tampa 4, Palm Beach Atlantic 0
- The Sailfish threatened, scoring a pair of runs while capitalizing on a UT fielding blunder. Top 4 | Tampa 4, Palm Beach Atlantic 2
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:
- Balmer paced the Spartan offense as the leadoff hitter went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run and an RBI.
- Galhouse and Fantone each collected a pair of hits.
- Chevalier drew a pair of walks.
- Galhouse pitched for the Spartans and now stands at 1-1 on the year after going 7.0 innings with four strikeouts. She allowed just one earned run in the game.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- PBA took the series victory over the Spartans after sweeping a Thursday doubleheader in West Palm Beach.
- Tampa had previously won the last three series against Palm Beach Atlantic.
- Three of UT's nine runs this season have come in the first inning.
UP NEXT: Tampa will meet Florida Tech for a pair of doubleheaders, beginning with a 4 p.m., twin-bill on Thursday in Tampa. The teams will then meet in Melbourne on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
