Spartans Top Florida Tech in Shortened Game
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team claimed a 2-0 victory in a game that was halted in the sixth inning due to lightning, as the second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to weather.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final Score: Tampa 2, Florida Tech 0 (6 Innings)
Records: University of Tampa Spartans (2-3, 2-2 SSC), Florida Tech Panthers (4-1, 3-1 SSC)
Location: Naimoli Field | Tampa, Fla.
All-time Series: Tampa now owns a 67-51 lead in the all-time series between Sunshine State Conference opponents. UT has taken three straight over the Panthers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Spartans pounced on the Panthers for a pair of runs, capitalizing on two errors to score Emalee Jansen and Emily Proffitt. Bottom 3 | 2-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Tampa had three hits on the game, and also drew a pair of walks.
- Corynn Miner took the victory in 5.0 shutout innings. After loading the bases to start the game, she escaped the jam and finished with five strikeouts in the game.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- The game went to a lightning delay in the top of the sixth inning.
UP NEXT: The same teams will meet on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., in Melbourne, Fla., for a pair of SSC contests.
