Spartans Sweep Lynn for Eighth Straight Win
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans softball team swept a doubleheader against the Lynn University Fighting Knights to improve to 8-3 on the year, upping their record to 7-2 in Sunshine State Conference play.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

All-time Series: Lynn owns a 72-44 edge in the all-time series between Sunshine State Conference opponents. The Spartans have won six consecutive meetings, dating back to 2018.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
- The only two runs scored in the game came by a Spartan bat in the bottom of the fifth inning: Alexa Russo singled to right field to score Lexie Chevalier. | 1-0 Tampa
- Stephanie Balmer doubled to left field to score Abigail Siegel. | 2-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:
- Corynn Miner earned her fourth victory of the year, tossing seven shutout innings and allowing only two hits. She had six strikeouts.
- 70 of 96 Miner pitches were strikes.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:
- The game was against silent until the later innings when Lynn scored off a sac-fly to take a 1-0 lead.
- Tampa immediately answered with a Cristina Clauberg single that scored Abigail Siegel in the bottom of the eighth. | Tied 1-1
- Lynn scored to take a 2-1 lead. | 2-1 Lynn
- Lauren Fantone flied out to the left field, sac-fly, to score Mariah Galhouse and send the game to extra innings. | Tied 2-2
- Emily Proffitt pinch hit and smacked a single up the middle in the bottom of the tenth to score Avery Perkins. 3-2 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:
- Mariah Galhouse won her fourth game of the year, pitching all 10 innings, striking out six, and allowed only three hits.
- Cristina Clauberg had a nice second showing, hitting 2-for-3 and an RBI.
- Emily Proffitt's only hit scored the game winning run.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- After starting the year with three straight losses the Spartans have gone on to win eight consecutive games.
UP NEXT: The Spartans are on the road for games three and four of their series against the Lynn Fighting Knights in Boca Raton, Fla. They are playing a doubleheader with the first game starting at 12:00 p.m. and the second at 2:00 p.m.
