Tampa Softball Sweeps SSC Weekly Honors
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team received both the Sunshine State Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, with Lauren Fantone and Corynn Miner taking the league's top honors.
Fantone takes Player of the Week honors after leading the Spartans in batting average, hits, runs, and on-base percentage in a series win against Saint Leo. The Deland, Florida native reached base successfully in all four games of the series, collecting multiple hits in each UT's three victories. During game two on Saturday, Fantone went 2-for-3 with a run scored and drove in the game's first run. She was 2-for-2 in game one of Sunday's twin bill, scoring the go-ahead run in the fourth inning for the Spartans. Fantone collected a pair of hits in game two on Sunday and scored the game-winning run. She finished the week with a .545 batting average, .583 on-base percentage, and a .636 slugging percentage.
Miner secures the Pitcher of the Week nod following 16.0 innings of work, 14 strikeouts, and two earned runs in a series win against Saint Leo. The St. Petersburg, Florida native started game one of both doubleheaders and finished the week as the team leader in ERA, innings pitched, and strikeouts. Miner pitched nine innings on Saturday, allowing zero earned runs while scattering five hits. The junior finished Saturday's contest with seven strikeouts. She returned to the circle on Sunday in a winning effort, hurling another complete game against the Lions. Miner finished with seven punchouts while earning her sixth win of the season. The weekly award is the second of her career.
