Tampa Softball Continues Streak to Conclude Regular Season
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team ended its regular season on an eight-game winning streak with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Nova Southeastern University.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Game One Final: Tampa 3, Nova Southeastern 0
Game Two Final: Tampa 4, Nova Southeastern 3
Records: University of Tampa Spartans (18-4, 16-3 SSC), Nova Southeastern University Sharks (12-12, 9-10 SSC)

All-Time Series: UT now holds a 35-21 lead in the all-time series, and are winners of six straight over the Sharks. The Spartans have now taken seven consecutive at home over Nova Southeastern
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
- Senior Maddie Farrell broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single that drove in Lauren Fantone. | 1-0 Tampa
- The Spartans added on to their lead in the sixth, crossing runs on a pair of singles by Lexie Chevalier and Farrell. | 3-0 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME ONE:
- Leadoff hitter Stephanie Balmer was one of three Spartans with two hits, joined by Mariah Galhouse and Farrell.
- Farrell was 2-for-3 at the plate as she was responsible for two of UT's runs.
- Corynn Miner had a complete game shutout as she went 7.0 innings with five strikeouts. She improved to 9-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME TWO:
- Nova Southeastern drew first blood, scoring two runs in a 3-hit top of the first inning. | 2-0 Nova Southeastern
- The Spartans drew even with a pair of fifth-inning runs. Chevalier and Emily Proffitt set the tone with a pair of singles to start the UT half of the frame. Balmer would drive in Chevalier and later score on a single by Miner. | 2-2 Tie
- Avery Perkins drove in two runs on a two-out go-ahead single. | 4-2 Tampa
- NSU would threaten in the seventh as the first two batters reached base. The Spartans limited the damage at just one run to secure the victory. | 4-3 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS — GAME TWO:
- Chevalier was 2-for-2 at the plate, also scoring two of Tampa's four runs.
- Miner also had two hits in the game.
- Balmer scored a run and also drove in one.
- A 7.0 inning complete game win improved Galhouse to 9-1 on the season. She had two strikeouts in the game.
UP NEXT: The Spartans await word on the 2021 NCAA South Regional, which is scheduled for May 19-22 in Valdosta, Ga.
