Spartans Win Battle Against Knights
The Spartans hosted the Lynn Fighting Knights for a senior day showdown and defeated Lynn 63-41.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's basketball team hosted the Lynn University Fighting Knights for their final home game of the season and came out victorious 63-41.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Quarter | Senior Elena de Alfredo came out fired up as she scored the first eight points of the game, giving the Spartans an eight point lead to start the quarter. A layup from Lynn would end their drought and give them their first points. Junior Faith Sanders tallied her first points on a layup and junior Karma Jeremie followed suit with a layup of her own and drawing a foul. The Fighting Knights started to close in on the Spartans lead with two minutes left in the first quarter. de Alfredo led all Spartans in the first quarter with eight points while Sanders tallied six. The Spartans led 17-11 heading into the second quarter.
2nd Quarter | Sanders was the first player to score to open up the second quarter while she recorded back-to-back three pointers to make the score 23-13. Senior Teresa Kucera got in on the action as she recorded her first points on back-to-back three pointers as well. The Spartans and the Fighting Knights continued to trade baskets, the Spartans keeping the Knights at at least a 10 point deficit. Griffin Dempsey recorded her first points on a three pointer assisted by de Alfredo. A three pointer from Kucera would make the score 39-23 heading into halftime.
3rd Quarter | de Alfredo was the first player to score in the third quarter on a jumper, increasing the Spartans lead to 18 points. The Fighting Knights struggled to keep up with the offense of the Spartans as Tampa led led by as many as 23 points with 20 seconds left in the quarter.
4th Quarter | Jeremie scored first on a layup for the Spartans, which would continue the offensive dominance of Tampa. The Spartans never led by less than 19 points the entire fourth quarter.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Sanders was the leading point scorer for the Spartans with 18 points and went 7-8 from the field.
- Kucera was the second leading point scorer with 15 points, three rebounds, and three steals.
- de Alfredo tallied 13 points, six assists, and two steals.
- As a team, the Spartans were 50 percent from the field.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans have not dropped a game to Lynn since the 2011-12 season.
