Tampa Women's Lacrosse is Set to Host Saint Anselm College
The University of Tampa women's lacrosse seeks a win against the Hawks to keep their perfect home record.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team will host the Saint Anselm College Hawks Thursday, at 1 p.m. This meeting marks the first matchup between the two schools.
The Matchup: University of Tampa (4-2) vs. Saint Anselm College (1-1)
Date/Time: Thursday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out: Tampa defeated the Tusculum College Pioneers 21-7. Offensively the Spartans were led by senior Amanda Voges and freshman Maggie Gladden who each had four goals. Additionally, junior Natalie Carraway and sophomore Caroline Forester contributed to the win in a big way with three goals each. On defense, UT held the Pioneers from scoring on 17 different occasions. Defensive standouts included, junior Emily Stevenson with four blocked goals, and freshmen Mackenzie Hackett and Alexa Scudillo with three blocked goals each. In this matchup, the Spartans tied the school record of most goals scored in a single game, with 21 on the day.
About the Spartans: The Spartans finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 5-10, and made it to the Sunshine State Conference tournament for the first time in program history. Going into the 2017 season, they return their top three offensive weapons, Voges, Carraway, and Amanda Rom. Voges was also a 2016 Second-Team All-SSC selection. Nine freshman join the Spartans this year. Combined, Claire Swanson, Gladden, and Carly Vaccaro have 24 of the Spartan's total 86 goals on the season. On Thursday, the Spartans look to continue their 3-0 home win streak.
About the Hawks: The Hawks are currently 1-1, 0-0 in the North East 10 Conference (NE10). The Hawks are lead offensively by juniors Emma Palumbo and Meaghan Sheehy with six goals each, and by senior Rachel Henderson with four goals. Sheehy also leads the Hawks defensively with seven recorded blocked goals, followed by junior Erica Mattila with six. Zoie Cavotta returns for the Hawks at the goal keeper position with an average save percentage of 31.4%.
Series History: This meeting marks the first matchup between the University of Tampa Spartans and the Saint Anselm College Hawks.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
