Tampa Women's Lacrosse is Set to Host Slippery Rock
#UTWLAX looks to advance their overall record to 5-3 by defeating Slippery Rock.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team will host Slippery Rock University today, at 7:30 p.m. This meeting marks the first matchup between the two universities.
The Matchup: University of Tampa (4-3) vs. Slippery Rock University (2-0)
Date/Time: Monday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Last Time Out: Tampa was defeated by the Saint Anselm Hawks 17-10. On offense, the Spartans were led by sophomore Rachel Crawford with three goals and one assist, and by freshman Claire Swanson who recorded two goals. Swanson also recorded four draw controls against the Hawks, the most on the Spartans' roster. Defensively, junior Emily Stevenson recorded three of the teams twelve total blocked goals.
About the Spartans: The Spartans finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 5-10, and made it to the Sunshine State Conference tournament for the first time in program history. Going into the 2017 season, they return their top three offensive weapons, Amanda Voges, Natalie Carraway, and Amanda Rom. Voges was also a 2016 Second-Team All-SSC selection. Nine freshmen join the Spartans this year. Combined, Swanson, Maggie Gladden, and Carly Vaccaro have 27 of the Spartan's total 96 goals on the season.
About Slippery Rock: Slippery Rock is currently 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Offensively, Slippery Rock is led by junior Bre Vodde and senior Caitlynn Palladino who have six and four goals respectively on the 2017 season. Redshirt sophomore Tia Torchia and senior Chynna Chan lead the team in draw controls with five and four on the season. Defensively, the Rock is led by freshman Tori Penders with eleven blocked goals and they return junior Emily BItka at the goal keeper position.
Series History: This meeting marks the first matchup between the University of Tampa Spartans and Slippery Rock University.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens, and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
