Tampa Drops First Game of Season to Florida Southern
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 8 ranked University of Tampa women's lacrosse team lost their first game of the season, 13-9, to the No. 5 ranked Florida Southern College Moccasins. The loss moves Tampa to 3-1 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF
The Spartans scored early, netting the game's first goal just over a minute into the match, an unassisted goal by Dani Waters. FSC scored the next two goals of the game on the woman-up to take the lead, 2-1, over Tampa. Riley McGettigan answered, unassisted, to tie the game 2-2 at the 21:26 mark. The Mocs then rang off five goals over the next 14 minutes, extending their lead to 7-2.
Tampa scored three relatively quick goals over the next three minutes to pull within two, 7-5 FSC: Gia Colombo, woman-down, unassisted, at 7:16, Cece Colombo, assisted by Hannah Bush, at 5:17, Hannah Bush, unassisted, at 4:48. Nearly a minute later FSC answered to inch away and extend their lead 8-5. Sarah Hinkle scored for the Spartans to make the game 8-6, and the Mocs scored the final goal of the half with 1:13 to go. Score: 9-6 FSC
SECOND HALF
Florida Southern struck first in the second half off the free position shot to take a four-goal lead, 10-6. Genie Santarpio scored her ninth goal of the season at the 25:39 mark, cutting into FSC's lead, 10-7. The Mocs, as they had seemingly done all game, once again had an answer and again scored at 22:34 to take a 11-7 lead. Georgia Glowaki netted the games 19th goal at 19:43, assisted by Santarpio, and Emma McLoughlin scored her second goal of the season on the free position shot to cut the Mocs lead to two, 11-9, with 14:13 to go. FSC scored the games final two goals to finish with a 13-9 win. Score: 13-9 FSC
INSIDE THE STATS:
- UT outshot Florida Southern 34-32.
- UT had a slight lead in caused turnovers with nine to FSC's seven.
- The Spartans scored seven unassisted goals.
- UT conceded double-digit goals for just the second time this season.
