Duo of Spartans Earn All-SSC Honors
Asgedom was selected to the first team while Frykgard was named to the second team
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Twenty-four women's soccer student-athletes have earned All-SSC honors for the 2016 season. Conference champions, Saint Leo University, collect eight All-SSC awards including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. Voting for the awards was conducted among the league's women's soccer coaches.
For the Spartans, midfielder Nastasia Asgedom was named to the first team while goalkeeper Caroline Frykgard was named as an at-large selection to the second team. Asgedom was selected to the second team last season. For Frykgard, this is her third straight year being awarded the All-SSC honor after being named to the first team last season and the second team in 2014.
Asgedom played in all 16 games this season, leading the team in goals with five and assists with three. She also recorded three game-winning goals; at Florida Southern in a 1-0 lead, at Palm Beach Atlantic in a 2-1 comeback victory, and against Florida Tech in the final game of the regular season at home.
Frykgard in the meantime played in 10 games this season. The junior keeper finished the year with 966 minutes of action making 54 saves while conceding 12 goals for an average of 1.12 average in goals against.
