Tampa Women's Soccer Shuts Out Rollins on Stand As One Night
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team earned a strong 2–0 victory over Rollins on Wednesday night at Pepin Stadium. The Spartans controlled the pace early, generating 13 first-half shots and capitalizing with two goals before the break.
Tampa opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Ally Wold finished off a pass from Sydni Dennis to give the Spartans a 1–0 advantage. Just over 11 minutes later, Tampa doubled the lead as Mimi Cronquist found the back of the net off an assist from defender Kendall Gouner in the 43rd minute.
The Spartans held their 2–0 lead through the second half thanks to disciplined defense and sharp goalkeeping. Tampa outshot Rollins 18–12 overall, with 10 of those on frame, and earned five corner kicks.
Defensively, Tampa's back line stood tall, while goalkeeper Lia Doohan recorded six saves for her first shutout of the season. Rollins pressed with nine second-half shots, but the Spartans' defensive unit cleared chances and protected the clean sheet.
The victory moves Tampa to 3-3-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.
