Tampa, Fla. — The University of Tampa women's soccer team dropped a tightly contested Sunshine State Conference match on Wednesday evening, falling 1–0 to Eckerd at Pepin Stadium.
After a back-and-forth opening 80 minutes that saw both sides trade opportunities, Eckerd broke through late when Freija Aflenzer found the net in the 83rd minute off an assist from Kailani Casazza. Despite a strong response from the Spartans in the final moments, Tampa was unable to find the equalizer.
Both teams finished level with seven shots apiece, and Tampa held a narrow 6–5 edge in corner kicks. The Spartans' defense held firm for most of the night, limiting the Tritons to just two shots on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Lia Doohan recorded one save in the full 90 minutes, anchoring a disciplined back line that included Lauren Holschauer, Jess Brannon, Zoe Whiddon, and Kendall Gouner. Offensively, Jalen Haas and Brielle Johnston each registered a shot on goal, while Tara McDonald, Kaylee Gibson, and Ally Wold provided additional attacking support.
With the result, Tampa moved to 5-5-3 overall and 3-4-2 in conference play, while Eckerd improved to 6-5-3 (5-2-2 SSC).
