Bio

Monica Lovett joined the University of Tampa coaching staff before the 2022 season. She brings expertise in goalkeeping, mental and physical player development.

Lovett is also a goalkeeping coach with Tampa Bay United, where she leads training sessions for goalkeepers of various ages and leagues, including ECNL, ECNLR and MLS Next. She has been with TBU since 2001.

She previously coached at the collegiate level with American University, where she was the assistant coach and goalkeeping coach for three seasons with the Eagles. She specifically trained and developed goalkeepers, while working closely with the head coach on team integration and tactics. She was also tasked with identifying and recruiting new players via high schools and club teams from across the country.

Lovett carries a wealth of experience at the collegiate level, after playing at both the Division I (Northwest State University) and NAIA (St. Thomas University, Lindenwood University and Bluefield College) levels during her collegiate career. She earned Academic-All Sun Conference in 2001, All-Heart of America Conference and NAIA National Championship All-Tournament Team in 2002.  

Following her college career, Lovett spent 11 years as a professional in the USL W League with the Tampa Bay Extreme and the Northern Virginia Majestics.

Lovett’s previous collegiate coaching experience was as the assistant women’s coach and goalkeeper trainer for Bluefield College (2004-05).

Since then, she has worked for the Stafford Soccer Youth program from 2013 through 2017. In 2015, Lovett earned the U.S. Youth Girls Competitive Coach of the Year.

Lovett holds an array of both coaching licenses and certificates. She holds three NSCAA licenses – Advanced Goalkeeping Diploma, Special Topics Training the Goalkeeper and Special Topics in Mental/Physical Player Development. Lovett has a USSF D License and National Youth License.
