Spartan Swimmers Place at NCAA Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the 13th straight season, both the University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams placed at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Spartan women were 13th in the nation with 148 points as the men were 15th with 92 points. Drury University won both the men's and women's national championships.
Tampa's 400 Free Relay team was fourth in the nation, clocking a time of 3:24.79. With the performance, Kristine Kassl, Erin Plachy, Kylie Piche and Heather Glenday each earned All-American honors.
Glenday also finished 13th in the 1,650 Free, with a time of 17:08.61. Kylie Piche was 11th in the 100 Free at 51.14.
Norbert Kovacs swam to a 17th place showing in the 1,650 Free, finishing in 15:55.66. Karl Burdis also competed to a 16th place effort in the 200 Back at 1:51.04.
Tampa concludes a 2012-13 season that featured many highlights to an already elite program. The Spartan women captured the second Sunshine State Conference championship in three years while the men competed against top competition and won the Nova Southeastern Invitational.
