UT Opens Season With SSC Victory Over Florida Southern
Marisa Barton won the 50 and 100 Free races to lead the Spartans.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's swimming team opened its 2016-17 season with an impressive victory over Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UT claimed six first-place performances.
• The Spartans had two of three finishers in the top three in seven races.
• The 200 Backstroke resulted in a 1-2-3 sweep for Spartan swimmers.
• The Spartan women have now won two of the last three against Florida Southern, with last season's meeting resulting in a 131-131 tie.
TOP PERFORMERS:
• Brittany Bayes won the 1,000 Free in 10:47.20, nearly five seconds faster than teammate and second-place finisher Ali Lombardi.
• Senior Marisa Barton continued her success with a first-place finish in the 50 Free. She finished with a time of 24.45. Barton also won the 100 Free in 52.92.
• Izzy Spalding won the 200 Fly with a time of 2:12.33. Teammate Nelly Hansson was third in the 200.
• Sophomore Brittany Murphy finished first in the 200 Back, with a time of 2:11.33. Fellow Spartans Catherine Bayes and Aubrey Hillborn followed Murphy as the Spartans took the top three spots.
• The Spartans finished the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Molly O'Hara, Megan Waddell, Courtney Markle and Torey Brierley won with a time of 3:38.80.

The Spartans will host Keiser University on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. with a live video webcast being made available through www.tampaspartans.com.
