Fosler Nabs SSC Defensive Player of the Week for Tampa Volleyball
Freshman Taylor Fosler picks up her first SSC accolade after posting three solo blocks and 10 assisted blocks in the Spartans' three wins this past week.
MELBOURNE, Fla. – After leading the Spartan defense to a 3-0 week, University of Tampa volleyball middle blocker Taylor Fosler was tabbed Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period spanning Oct. 24-30, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The 6'3 freshman posted 13 blocks across three matches, averaging 1.44 per set. In a 3-0 sweep of then-first place Eckerd, Fosler posted five blocks while swatting six kills at a .444 clip (6-2-9) to hold the former first-place team in the SSC to a -.010 attack percentage as a team.
The Ocala, Fla. native continued with a three-block performance against Rollins College on the road, adding four kills while helping hold the Tars to a .031 team attack clip. Fosler finished the week with another five-block outing against Embry-Riddle, grounding nine kills at a blistering .615 attack (9-1-13) in addition to her solid defensive effort. The Eagles were limited to a .100 attack clip.
For the week, Tampa's opponents hit a combined .041 across nine sets due to the strong block of Fosler. Offensively, the middle blocker totaled 19 kills at a strong .406 attack percentage in her three games of play.
The Spartans are 17-6 and 7-3 in SSC matchups this season.
UT will look to another strong week of defense, as the team is set to host rival Florida Southern College for a Tuesday night matchup, slated for a 7 p.m. start time. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be made available through www.tampaspartans.com.
