Spartans Close Out Regular Season Ranked No. 23
Tampa earns a No. 23 rank in the last AVCA regular-season poll of 2016. The final poll is released at the conclusion of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Concluding regular-season action, the University of Tampa volleyball team improved to the No. 23 ranked team in Division II as per the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association coaches poll released Monday.
The Spartans finished the regular-season 22-8 and tied for first place in the Sunshine State Conference. The SSC crown ultimately went to Saint Leo University who took both regular season matchups against UT for the first time in program history.
Keeping its top-rank in the nation, Concordia, St. Paul continues as the No. 1 team after winning the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament over No. 3 Southwest Minn. State. Nebraska-Kearney slides into the No. 2 spot while Minn. Duluth and Wheeling Jesuit sit tied for No. 4 in the latest poll.
Regional foe Palm Beach Atlantic continues at No. 10 while fellow region opponent and Gulf South Conference champions North Alabama return to the poll as the No. 25 team after defeating RV West Florida in five sets.
The ranking marks the program's 282nd consecutive week of earning a spot on the AVCA poll, an active program record. The streak ranks second in Division II as Central Missouri continues their streak with a No. 17 ranking in this week's release.
