Imperiale Gets Win In Debut
Tampa, Fla. – The No. 10 Tampa volleyball team opened the season with a win at the Bob Martinez Center after sweeping Lander at the annual Tampa Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Set: Senior Nathaly Perez tallied the Spartans' first kill of the season as Tampa would go on to score the match's first three points. Lander would fight, cutting Tampa's lead to 9-8 in the first. From there on out, Tampa and Lander would battle exchanging points with neither team having a lead bigger than one. The Bearcats had set point with a 25-24 lead, but Perez would deliver a kill to bring the match level. Senior Tess Schrenger tallied a kill after a beautiful setup by sophomore Kayla Dondero to give Tampa set point. An attacking error by Lander would give the Spartans the first set victory. | Score: 27-25 Tampa
Second Set: Much like the first set, host Tampa went on a run, scoring five consecutive points to start the second set. Freshman Jenna Glaudel had a skipset to put Tampa ahead 7-1. The Bearcats cut the deficit to three at one point in the set, but the Spartans would go on to win seven of the next eight points, giving them a 20-11 lead. Tampa eventually went on to win the set. | Score 25-15 Tampa
Third Set: Consecutive kills by Schrenger and Connor Rahn lifted Tampa out to a 4-1 third-set lead. Later in the set, Jenna Davis had a kill after a Dondero setup, putting the Spartans ahead by six and up 10-4. Lander would never lead in the third but did bring the score level, 11-11, lighting a spark in Tampa as they went on to score seven straight points. Rachel Gregg closed out the match with a kill to give Tampa its first win of the season. | Score: 25-17 Tampa
