#24 Spartans Soar Past Griffins
TAMPA, Fla. - After tacking up eleven runs in the first two innings, the 24th-ranked University of Tampa Spartans took care of the Seton Hill Griffins Monday night by a score of 12-6. With the win, Tampa improves to 18-7 on the season while the Griffins drop to 2-4 overall.
In the first, the Spartans scored six runs with two outs. Most of the damage came when Jared Simon doubled to right field scoring Steven Broschofsky and Mike Schwartz. Garrett Maines followed suit with a two-run home run to left field. After a Casey Albanese single, Tampa would get its sixth run when Nick Nordgren tripled to left center.
Simon would stroke his second two RBI double in the following inning and Maines added a two RBI single. Maines came around to score on a fielder's choice to round out the scoring. Tampa added another run in the eighth to bring the score to 12-6.
Max Kreuter threw four innings to pick up his second win of the season, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out two. Nate Titus came on in relief with the score at 11-3. Titus pitched three innings striking out four before Jimmy Moser closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
