SSC Teams with National Rankings: #1 Tampa and #7 St. Leo
Tampa
- The Spartans improved their record to 29-3 and 10-2 in SSC play after taking two of three this past weekend against Nova Southeastern. The Spartans continue to stay at the top of the national polls, as they are at the top of the NCBWA poll for the seventh straight week. Alex Canney continues to rise in the National Pitcher of the Year conversations. Canney continues to have outstanding stuff on the mound. He has been electric in his past 6 starts, giving up no more than 2 runs in those starts and striking out 31 batters. Canney has an 8-0 record with 1 no decision while pitching 49 innings in those 9 appearances. This past Thursday was arguably his best performance of the season, going 6 strong innings while allowing 1 run, striking out 5, and not allowing a single walk. Canney looks to improve on those numbers as he takes the mound in Winter Park this weekend.
Rollins
- Despite the Tars' 17-12 record and 9-6 in SSC play, they expected to be fighting for the #1 seed in the SSC at the beginning of the season. However, the Tars can get things around this weekend as they host the #1 team in the land, Tampa. Rollins looks to change things around after dropping their last two games to Barry this past weekend and losing to Saint Leo 3-2 yesterday.
