Dooley Secures SSC Pitcher of the Week
The University of Tampa was represented through Makaleigh Dooley.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference announced its weekly award winners and the University of Tampa's softball team was represented through Makaleigh Dooley, as the senior was named SSC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.
Dooley earned SSC honors for the tenth time in her career after a dominant week in the circle, collecting three wins and a no-decision in four starts. In 24 innings pitched, the senior recorded 21 strikeouts and walked only one batter. On Friday night against Lynn University, the Wharton HS alum registered her second career no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over the Fighting Knights. On the week, the opponents' registered a .057 batting average as she allowed only two earned runs on nine hits.
The Spartans go-to pitcher leads the SSC with 128 strikeouts, ranks second in wins (13), and third in ERA (1.12). In 17 starts (19 apps.), the right-hander's collected a 13-5 record and has gone the distance in 14 games. On the season, Dooley's averaging 7.5 strikeouts per game and she's allowed only nine walks in 118.1 innings pitched. This weekend, she moved into the top four in UT history in the following categories: innings pitched (649.2), wins (60), appearances (109), starts (88), and tied for fourth with 19 shutouts in her career.
Tampa's currently riding a seven-game winning entering their mid-week series in Kissimmee, and UT will follow up with an important three-game weekend slate against the conference's top-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks. The Spartans sit in third place in the Sunshine State Conference after the weekend sweep over Lynn University. UT has won four games against ranked competition this season, taking the series from No. 10 Florida Tech on March 8-9 and earned victories over then-ranked No. 8 West Chester and No. 22 Valdosta State in the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
