Spartans Sweep Mid-Week Doubleheader
The University of Tampa swept the mid-week doubleheader in Kissimmee.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team swept their double-header in "The Spring Games" and extended their winning streak to nine games.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (Game One):
Final: Tampa 5 (W: Sam Worrell, 1-2), Saint Michael's 0 (L: T. Rathwell, 1-4)
Records: University of Tampa Spartans (18-9, 9-6 SSC), Saint Michael's Purple Knights (1-9)
Location: Osceola Softball Complex || Kissimmee, Fla.
All-Time Series: This was the first meeting between the two programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 1st: The Spartans offense came alive early in the game, as Cristina Clauberg singled down the left-field line and advanced to third on Corynn Miner's fourth double of the year. Both Spartans came around to score on an RBI single from Worrell. With two outs, Emalee Jansen cashed in the third run of the game with a base-knock which scored Worrell from second.
TOP 7th: Kailee Clark made her second plate appearance of the year and poked a single up the middle. Maddie Farrell approached the plate and went deep for the second time this season.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Worrell made her fifth start of the season, and earned her first victory as a Spartan. The senior transfer struck out five batters and allowed three hits, while she did not walk anyone.
- Farrell went 2-4, with a home-run and two runs batted in. The junior back-stop has recorded multiple hits in five of the last seven games.
- The Spartans sported a .462 average (6-for-13) when hitting with two outs.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans have not allowed a run in 9 games this season. In the last six games, UT has allowed only two runs including three straight shutouts.

Final: Tampa 4 (W: Makaleigh Dooley, 14-5), Minnesota-Crookston 0 (L: T. Graven, 0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 2nd: With one out, Bailey Phillips singled up the middle and scored on an RBI double from Dooley. The next batter, Stephanie Balmer, roped an RBI double of her own to extend the lead for UT.
BOT 4th: In her second at-bat, Phillips connected on a home-run to dead-center field. Last season as a freshman, she logged the game-winning run with a homer against Florida Tech. Dooley walked and advanced to third after a passed ball and a wild pitch. Erica Matich recorded her first RBI of the season with a base-knock which drove in Dooley.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Dooley went the distance for the 15th time this season; the senior allowed three hits and two walks, but struck out six batters.
- Phillips logged the second homer of her career and she led the team with two hits.
- Tampa recorded three doubles in the contest, tied for the most this season. UT accomplished this feat on Feb. 15 at Eckerd College.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans have not allowed a run in 10 games this season. In the last seven games, UT has allowed only two runs including four straight shutouts.
- Tampa's currently riding a nine-game winning streak dating back to March 9.
UP NEXT: The University of Tampa will host an important weekend series against the Nova Southeastern Sharks, who sit atop the Sunshine State Conference. First pitch on Friday, March 22 is set for 6:00 p.m.
