Spartans Slay Rams In Mid-Week Contest
The Tampa pick up their fourth win of the season as they continue their long eight-game road trip.
Albany, Ga. – The University of Tampa Spartans faced off against the Albany State University Rams Tuesday night and picked up the victory over the Rams 69-55.
The victory snaps UT's two-game losing streak and improves to 4-5 on the season.
Tampa looked to jump ahead early by playing aggressively on both ends of the floor. The Spartans would end the first half of play leading 34-26 which set the tempo for the remainder of the game as they would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the contest.
The Spartans would pick up second half play where they left off in the first half, and would eventually extend their lead to as many as 20 points on the night, but would coast to the 14 point victory.
Offensively, UT turned in their efficient performance of the year as they posted 50.9% field goal percentage, and shot 50% from behind the arc going 9-18. The Spartans had four players turn in double-digit performances as Juliana Cavallaro, who led all scorers with 19 points, Candice Martino, who tallied 17 points, Elena De Alfredo, who notched 12 points and Karma Jeremie who chipped in 10 points of her own.
Defensively, Tampa forced 11 turnovers on the night in addition to out-rebounding Albany State 38 to 28. Leading all players in rebounds was senior Taylor McVey, who pulled in 10 rebounds.
Tampa will continue their road trip and travel to Columbia, SC on Saturday to face No. 24 ranked Benedict College for an afternoon showdown. Tip-off is at 3 pm ET. Live stats will be available for fans to follow all the action via Tampaspartans.com.
