GAMEDAY ADVANCE: No. 4 Spartans Compete Against No. 6 Pace in another Top 10 Matchup
TAMPA, Fla – The University of Tampa women's lacrosse team travel back home as they compete in another top 10 matchup against #6 Pace University.
The Matchup: #4 University of Tampa (6-1) vs. #6 Pace University (2-1)
Date/Time: Wednesday March 15, 2023 at 8:00 p.m.
Location: Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. 1120 West North A Street, Tampa, FL 33606
Series History: This is the first matchup between Pace and Tampa. In this match, each team looks to get the series started by capturing the first win in the series.
About the Spartans: The Spartans come into this matchup on the winning end after defeating #12 Wingate on the road. It was a close matchup as the Spartans escaped with a final score of 16-12. In the second quarter the Spartans scored four back to back goals to put them up 7-2. By the fourth quarter, Wingate had started putting their foot on the gas as they attempted to chip away at the Spartans lead, but couldn't get close enough. Emma McLoughlin led the squad with a season-high five goals. Although majority of the goals were unassisted, Allie Peebles finished the game with two assist. The Spartans sail into this game looking to secure another win against a top 10 opponent putting their season back on winning track.
About the Setters: The Setters travel into this matchup coming off of a tough loss to #2 Florida Southern. The early minutes of the game were back and forth as the Setters tried to get the upper hand early. The Setters got outscored 6-1 in the second quarter giving Florida Southern a large lead of 9-4. The Setters then cut the deficit to four in the third quarter as they looked to fire back. The Setters opened the scoring in the fourth but two late goals from Florida Southern iced the game for them. Two setters finished the game with a hattrick, Katie Long and Angelina Porcello. The Setters come into this matchup looking to bounce back from a tough one against Florida Southern and put themselves back in the winning column.
