Tampa Rowers Conclude SIRA Championship Regatta
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Tampa crew team competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta, placing among top finishers in a number of events.
The women's Novice 4 team placed fourth with a time of 8:47.40. The team then placed second in the semifinal race with a time of 8:52.45. Purdue won the race, though UT did finish ahead of Auburn, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Florida and Vanderbilt.
The Varsity 4 team also competed to a third place finish with a time of 8:40.01. In the Varsity 4 semifinal, a time of 8:24.29 was good for a fifth place showing.
Competing for Tampa in the Varsity 4 was Theresa Osborne (c), Jeanette Nicewinter, Alissa Price, Alicia Thompson and Samantha Webb. The Novice 4 Lightweight consisted of Kathryn Pielli (c), Crystal Thomas, Christine Halby, Alyssa Rodgiques and Marris Smith. The Novice 4 Heavyweight was Samantha Burns (c), Emily Harbaugh, Jessica Fontaine, Kara Wall and Hillary Lane.
Tampa is back in action on Saturday at the Sunshine State Conference championships in Fellsmere, Fla. The event will be hosted by Barry University at Canal 54 Race Course.
