TAMPA, Fla. - After 102 minutes of action, the fourth-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team netted a 2-1 victory on a double overtime goal by Alison Penland to defeat Florida Southern College. The victory moves UT to 11-1-1 on the season and 4-0 in the Sunshine State Conference as the Moccasins fall to 10-6 and 4-3 in league play.
Tampa found itself in a quick hole as Florida Southern's Erin Hopkins scored an unassisted goal at just under six minutes into the game to give the Mocs a 1-0 advantage.
The Spartans evened the score at 1-1 on a Marissa Mohammed goal in the 27th minute. Following a Brittney Evans shot, Mohammed directed the rebound into the back of the net.
The match went to overtime following a second half that saw just one shot on goal by the two teams. After a scoreless first overtime, Tampa buried the game winner at 102:18 on a goal by Penland from Marissa Bernard and Shelby Kuni.
UT returns to action on Saturday at 7 p.m. as it hosts Covenant College in the second game of a doubleheader with Tampa's men's team.
