COLUMBUS, Ga. - It took less than five minutes for The University of Tampa (1-2-1) women's soccer team to score its first goal in an offensive onslaught that resulted in an 8-0 Spartan victory over Chowan University (1-4).
Junior Megan Tobin got the scoring started with an unassisted goal 4:56 mark. The co-captain then assisted Sara Kneeland's goal on a bounce off a CU player. Following another Sara Kneeland goal that was assisted by Samantha Kay, Tobin struck for her second goal of the afternoon to give UT a 4-0 advantage. The score was a result of a Dana Palmiotto cross that was headed in by Tobin.
Jazmin Perry, Molly Gottlieb, Caroline Spencer and Nicolet Rommel accounted for the final Spartan goals as freshman Callan Hoerdemann notched a pair of assists. Gottlieb and Spencer were also credited with an assist apiece.
Senior Saige Steinmetz started in goal for Tampa and was credited with the shutout, though the UT defense allowed no shots on goal. Tampa finished the match with 35 shots, including 22 on goal as CU tallied just one shot.
Tampa now returns to play host to West Georgia on Friday at 7 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the Spartan men.
