ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team put on a great offensive show as it beat Eckerd College by a score of 4-0. Tampa now improves to 6-7-1 and 2-2 in the Sunshine State Conference while Eckerd College drops to 1-9-1 and 0-6 in SSC.
Freshman Sara Kneeland opened up the scoring when she received a through ball from Brittan Spence to put the ball past Eckerd goalkeeper Marisa Berger. Sophomore Samantha Kay scored off a Kneeland assist at the 17:45 minute mark.
Tampa continued to lay on the pressure when Jazmin Perry got hold of a ball as Eckerd defense made an attempt to clear it out of Triton territory. It was Perry's seventh of the season leading all Spartans in goals scored. The Spartans notched their fourth goal of the game when Molly Gottlieb received a pass from freshman Callan Hoerdemann and took a shot from the top of the box to lift it over the Triton keeper.
The game saw a scoreless second half as the Spartans controlled the majority of the play. Tampa outshot Eckerd 19-3 placing eight on goal and led in corner kicks by a margin of 15-1. Tampa returns to play on Saturday at home against Barry University continuing SSC play.
